Your private chat, voice and video, run by people you know.
EmrysNet is an invite-only chat server built on Matrix. Use it in your browser, or in any Matrix app. The one thing to remember is the server name.
First time here
-
Get your invite code
EmrysNet is invite-only. The person who invited you will send you a code.
-
Create your account in the browser
Go to chat.emrysnet.org, choose Create account, and enter your invite code. Pick a username and a password of at least 12 characters.
-
Save your recovery key
Element will offer to set up a recovery key. Do it, and keep the key in your password manager. Your messages are end-to-end encrypted, and without this key a new phone or computer can't read your older messages.
-
Sign in on your other devices
Install an app below and sign in with your username and password, using emrysnet.org as the server.
Choose an app
We recommend Element. It has calls built in and is what we test with.
Browser
Any computer, nothing to install
Already set up for EmrysNet. Just sign in.
Computer
Windows, macOS and Linux
On the sign-in screen, select Edit next to the server and enter emrysnet.org.
Phone
Element X for iPhone and Android
When the app asks which server to use, change it and enter emrysnet.org.
Create your account in the browser first. Element X can sign you in, but it can't create new EmrysNet accounts yet.
Prefer a different app?
EmrysNet speaks Matrix, an open standard, so any Matrix app can connect. Browse the list of Matrix clients at matrix.org, then sign in with emrysnet.org as the server. Features like calls vary between apps.
Good to know
Members only
You can chat with people who have an EmrysNet account. It doesn't connect to other Matrix servers yet.
Calls built in
Voice and video calls work in Element on every device. Start one from the call button in any room.
Sharing files
You can send files up to 500 MB.
